A Windows Media Player that can record Windows Streaming Media to disk while watching a pre-recorded video (Video On Demand) or live stream.
A new version has been released (v0.2 on 16 sept. 2007). Click 'read more' to download it. You will need v0.2.0 to record on Vista!
General: As mentioned before, this program can record Windows Streaming Media to disk while watching a video. If you press the 'Record'-button, in most cases, the recorded video will begin earlier in time then expected. This is caused by the fact that the videostream is buffered between 2 video-'key'-frames. This buffering is done because otherwise, starting a recording between 2 'key'-frames, would cause the video to be unavailable until the next 'key'-frame and you would miss some video. So now you get more video then you would think ;-). While recording is in progress, a blinking text 'Recording' will appear on top of the video.
When viewing a pre-recorded clip (Video On Demand) you can pause the clip and the total playing time of the clip will be shown also, see picture below. When recording a pre-recorded clip, the recording will stop when the clip stops playing. You can start recording from the beginning of a clip if you push the 'Record'-button instead of the 'Play'-button.
You can start the program from the commandline and specify an URL to play/record. Menus:

Download: click here to download WMStreamRecorderSetup.msi v0.1.0 After registering v0.2.0 will be downloaded on program start. You will need v0.2.0 to record on Vista! Some technical information: The program is based on the sample program 'PlayWnd' and the sample DirectShow Filter 'Dump' from Microsoft. The filter connects before the decompressor (audio and video) input and writes the samples to an asf-file. The program is written in Visual C/C++ with Visual Studio 2005. It requires DirectX9 and Windows MediaPlayer 10 or 11. More info soon. Notice: Please, don't infringe on the copyright of other people!
